This software is driving me crazy. Because there is not an option for direct mapping to a Roland TD27. I’ve manually mapped the drums/cymbals in the application. Initially I actually got incorrect directions from InMusic support who later came back and admitted their mistake.
Now for the problem - I’ve mapped all the drums and cymbals and although the drums reflect the instruments correctly, every cymbal is sounding like a China cymbal. However, the midi does reflect the correctly mapped cymbal when I hit it. I randomly then assigned the same cymbal to one of the toms and the cymbal DOES sound like the one in the midi. So it’s just the actual cymbals that are not reflecting the true cymbal chosen. I’ve tried everything. Why is it sounding true when mapped to a tom, but not an actual cymbal? Please help!
Roland TD-17-27-30-50/X…All use the same Map…the main difference is the Aux/Expansion inputs…which can also be split by the user for bigger Kits.
You can also try each one as there may be slight differences in the settings for Factory Roland Kit Piece Models/Sizes.
I created an Updated Key Map for Roland TD27KV2 that includes all the additional articulations for the Hi Hat in Dark Farm…and reportedly working well in BFDv3.5.
It did not fix the issue, unfortunately, but thank you. For some reason, the cymbals are all sounding the same…almost like a splash or a China. Even when I map them to something different and follow the midi, the kit does not play what it should. The toms are ok…the snare isn’t quite playing what it should, but it’s close. Thanks again…I have a ticket open with support, but as usual with anything with this company, the responses are slow and usually incorrect.
The MIDI Map should be good…as mentioned previously.. Roland Modules use the same Map except for some very early modules which may have been different.
There are over 300 downloads alone for the TD17 Map and No issues which I am sure if something was wrong someone would have mentioned it.
The only other thing I can think of is to check the Octave setting…a Crash sounding like a China is about an Octave apart for MIDI assignments…depending on the size of the Kit loaded.
The Octave setting for BFD is under Preferences.
Are you using as a Vst or Standalone?
In Standalone the Octave setting for a Roland is "Normal’ as the software was based originally using a TD20 (you’ll see references to it in the manual)
DAW may have a different setting for Middle C as some are set for Yamaha Controllers which uses C3…
as far as Drum Modules go..
Roland uses the conventional C4 (Normal) for middle C.
Yamaha refers to middle C as C3 (-1)
Alesis uses C2 (-2)
Thanks for the reply…I am using BFD3.5 as a standalone. If you remember from my first post, when I assign the cymbal to a tom (any tom), the sound is as expected. It’s only when the cymbal as assigned as a cymbal..doesn’t matter (that much) which cymbal I choose for a given cymbal.
Also, if I hit the rim of any drum, I get this continuous echo.
Keep in mind also, that I have both EZDrummer and AD2…no problems at all. Everything plays as it should.
Not sure this would help, but even if I set my kit to a reggae one, the snare sound is close to what it should be, but not quite. The whole thing is strange to me.
