I hope you’ll understand when I say it gives me absolutely no pleasure whatsoever to say thank you for saying that.
I just want the perfectly fantastic fully functioning software I currently have working to work in 4 months time and not have BFD put themselves legally at risk by saying the opposite on the main page. I just want BFD to honor their sale and have access to updates. Thats it. I just want to use the software that works just fine.
Theyve had over a year and my time online is nearly done.
Well, seeing as BFD are claiming this is entirely out of their hands, and would rather argue and block private messages, I’ll call InMusic tomorrow and see if their HR dept. can help, see if their PR dept care, and see if Trading Standards UK care. I suspect the answer will be no, but I wont know that until I try. I suggest anyone who wants to use the software as sold do the same.

Yeah, some people don’t get that. This isn’t some BFD safe space.
Again do people honestly think that staying with this software from BFD1 till now that we get joy out of disparaging this once great instrument? We want it great again.
For the record, I have NEVER used BFD in a project due to its instability here and I have been with it since BFD1 back when I talked with Gareth in England on the phone. That says a lot IMO. I wont buy BFD4 for sure. The ONLY thing that has kept me trying to get it working is DREW and that is it.
There is always some ahole telling people dont let the door hit ya in the azz on every forum. I dont need to point them out.
Not telling people about this 90 phone home LM presales is really bad.
Imagine if you bought it then found out you need to have a iLok dongle, its the same thing.
I would have never migrated to InMusic had I known about this LM bullchido. Bait and switch anyone??
The server at FXpansion will die soon and the sky is falling.
So for you aholes that dont want people to express their angst about these real things, sorry Charlie, we are hear and will bitch till this crap gets fixed
And not just bad, likely illegal in many territories.
I’ve been checking retailers, not a single one mentions internet required. They are opening themselves up for returns a plenty, complaints, and legal action due to false advertising. And this is all due to BFD being open and honest, according to Drew.
@BFD_Drew Does amazing customer service work here, for problems he can fix, but when it comes to this issue, his temperament was not made for it, and as a boss of the company, he should be way more open to making this right, as a priority. He’s digging a massive PR disaster here and only making it worse.
As a workaround for users who don’t have internet connected to their workstation, you can create a WiFi hotspot on your mobile phone and have your workstation use your phone’s internet connection to have the LM do it’s check every 90 days.
I’m curious how users with no internet download updates for their OS, plugins and other sample libraries?
I wont be doing any of those updates is the answer. I dont have a smart phone to update. I dont have any Apple products (EDIT: Sorry I misread OS and iOS My OS works, updates are often security fixes, needed for being online or running dodgy software, neither of which I’ll be doing or needing to do). I can get a tiny update for Reaper and install it offline. I dont need to update anything else going forwards, I’ve made my studio work this way so I can go offline.
No offence at all, FB, but this isnt about me having to change my lifestyle around or go into my personal circumstances.
When I bought this software it worked offline. The changes werent announced for us to all agree to. Now my BFD will shut down in around 120 days. This needs fixing.
Or anyone who bought before a certain date get an option to agree or disagree to the new terms of use.
Or literally anything. Any hint this is moving at all. I’ve already put more creativity into suggestions in this one post than anything we’ve heard from BFD off their own backs. EVERY solution so far has been customer driven and suggested.
Just for the avoidance of doubt, I am not a “boss” at the company at all. I am a product owner. That is a job title, not a declaration of ownership.
That means I represent the users end-to-end. Everything from feature set, to user stories and personas, to communicating desires, needs, and problems. I am the de-facto user representative when it comes to BFD. That doesn’t mean I call the shots. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.
I am still in talks with upper management about this issue, and that is all I am at liberty to say right now.
Iirc, the old Fxpansion system did require internet to authorize to the computer, or am I mistaken?
I’m always downloading large sample content for various sampler plugins, so I’d be in trouble without internet in my setup. Not to mention, receiving/sending tracks to clients, uploading content to media platforms.
Thank you for the clarity, something its tough to get out of BFD at times.
You have still made yourself the customer service representative for the company, on this public forum, so you’re going to have to accept this stuff being directed at you.
Its not blame. Its having no other option, and you being here doing this job.
Offline authorisation was a thing. Even if online authentication was a thing one had to do, the software didnt shut down after three months of not being able to authenticate itself yet again.
Again tho, its not relevant. BFD worked fine offline previously. Now it doesnt. Mine will cease to function in around 120 days. This is by BFD’s own design.
I would like to use the software, this needs fixing.
Yes, so you can see this is, creatively and artistically, a hard pill to swallow. But I create because I enjoy it, my studio has me as client. I dont create specifically for content for anywhere.
I create using BFD and love it. Soon, thats out the window along with my creativity having an outlet into the world, but I can live with all that. I can make my peace with all that outlet loss. Its not an issue.
I’d still like to be able to program drums in my favourite drum editor. i dont see why I should be penalised for having difficult circumstances in a product that works just fine and doesnt technically need any internet to run.
Actually, no, thats as clear as mud. 2 paragraphs of explaining your position at BFD, one short vague sentence on the issue at hand.
@BFD_Drew, I’m sorry if this offends you, but you really arent helping. I’m going to ask for maybe a fourth time - if you cant help with this, put me in touch with someone who can.
Hell no, way too many reports around here of that email address being useless. So youre saying you have less say at BFD regarding this than the support email folks?
I suggest everyone phone InMusic from now on. This is total corporate run around nonsense.
