Workflow when recording vdrum tracks

I’m curious to know how folks use BFD with their Roland kits to eventually get individual tracks in their DAW (in my case, Cubase). Do you work directly in your DAW to record MIDI first? Or do you work in BFD’s groove editor to create a palette/preset?

TL;DR: I have used BFD standalone and recorded tracks with the Groove Editor b/c I was of the mind that there was an advantage to doing so to better capture high-hat variations. Am I understanding this correctly? While the editor is much fun to tweak things, I’m not sure it’s the best work environment. I’m not a good drummer but, with the help of technology, have recorded good drum tracks.

For instance, currently when I’m recording instruments like guitar, I can loop a portion of a song to get multiple tracks and I can comp things to my heart’s content. Look forward to hearing from users here.
