I kinda do this already by loading a bunch of different grooves and turning on the automatic fill options, its obviously no where near as automated as what youre asking for but it serves a similar purpose of having a base rhythm and cycling thru other similar rhythms, and fills prior to changing groove.
Worth exploring if its not something you already do
Have you looked at the Sonic Reality Neil Peart library? It’s the Snakes and Arrows kit. I have it and have a 4 rack tom 2 floor tom setup. I treat it like I would a real acoustic kit with the kick and snare going to separate outs, the toms going to another, cymbals get picked up by the overheads, and separate outs for the room and overheads. I completely bypass the summing in the BFD mixer for the most part.
Unfortunately the NP kit doesn’t work in BFD 3.4. because it won’t authorize in the license manager. Got a request into Drew for auth codes but haven’t heard back from him.
What do I want in BFD 4?
How about dump this screwy authorization business and go with iLok? I love having my licenses on it. A lot of s/w developers support it.
On the subject of groove templates, which I’ve brought up before, I’d like to see them return. However, I’d like them to be more sophisticated than they’ve been in the past.
The problem with most groove templates is that they apply to the beat on the whole. However, some drummers have very specific ways of applying the groove which are applicable to how they hit a certain kit piece. I’m thinking of the specific swing and accent pattern in John Bonham’s hi-hat, or the slight lateness in Charlie Watts’ snare backbeat.
So I’d like the groove template to be channel specific, and also be able to alter the dynamics of the kit piece. There would also be a strength knob for the amount that the timing or dynamics are affected by the groove template.
Also, how a drummer hits the notes together is very characteristic, as nobody hits two or three drums at the same exact time. Some lead with the kick. Some lead with the snare, some lead with a hat or cymbal. But they’re never at the exact same instant, and they’re pretty characteristic of a drummer’s style. So, something that enables this to happen. Maybe incorporated into the groove pattern, or maybe a separate modifier that automatically spreads out simultaneous notes in some characteristic and definable way (as opposed to randomly).
And, if you want to really get nuts, the ability to extract this from a clip segment would make BFD a producer’s dream.
Actually recording the samples with the snares off and no snares within 100 miles of the recording for the snare off recording that day Drumasonic has headed this on the best I’ve seen so far, they have 2 separate sets of samples. One set with snare on and another set of samples recorded with snares off. Each set of samples can be loaded and unloaded in the app at any time. So this goes for all channels, all mics, all instruments, recorded with snare off- all ambient and room channels, not just close mics snare off.
sound sound sound- keep most of the emphasis, if not all, on the extreme sound quality and detail. This has been done already so well so keep that going strong. No one will want to use a vsti that doesn’t sound great, but has a better groove editor and easier menus? I don’t think there is much wrong with the current GUI. Everything needs to be bigger- font, size and scale for easier use and more streamlined/better navigation and access to items without digging into different menus and going back and forth all the time between channels and effects, grooves, editors, etc. Everything people have mentioned already is true including what I’ve mentioned and needs to be streamlined but most of all keep the focus on the extreme quality and true snares off samples. Make sure there are no phase issues no mater what channel/effects are being processed, no mater what side or pan level a mic is at. Drumasonic implemented with this approach and it worked very well for them. Super clean, distortion free samples and processing.
*Also, a more playable hihat! Things still need to come a long way with hihats playability on ekits. Need more articulations at more points throughout the up and down stroke on the pedal.
I’d like to see these kits recorded in great detail, in amazing sounding, dynamic, vibrant rooms and spaces through amazing gear with versions of snares on and off!!

I’d like to be able to have a favorites list for each project. This way I can go through and mark all the drum grooves I’d like to use in a song. Then when I open a different project I could have a different set of favorites without having to reset my favorites from the first one.
You can bet your arse I won’t be buying BFD4 after you totally screwed my recording life. If you’re expecting me to have a machine online so you can check my licences then ‘get tae f****’
Possibly may reconsider if iLok
iLok works well for me also, but I’m not sure this is the best route in BFD’s case. They are trying get back into the game and grow the user base. I think iLok would not help there. However, if the current authorization mess doesn’t get sorted, iLok may be the best choice for current users.
Even if they do sort the current mess, the damage is done. Why trust software that may be sold and your licence suddenly become invalid? At least with iLok you can keep running what you’ve already got

【Request】
I propose a very strong request for this in BFD3 and BFD4!!
In particular, the 『ambient microphone』 should be able to operate in the area indicated by the red line with a minimum range of 0.01.
In other places, I was able to fine-tune it by pressing Shift and so on.
If possible, it is desirable to be able to enter accurate values in “all locations”.
The 『tuning st』is very nice.
Easy to perform fine tuning.
【Make a suggestion.】
・Support for VST3.
・Use with physical modeling at fine points.
・I want to load other wavs and Individual output. (Monoral and Stereo. I want to use it as a Drum Trigger.)
【Hope】
BFD3 has many minor bugs, and few updates.
I hope that BFD4 will be more stable.
More Hi Hat Openness Articulations it is a Must in 2021… only 5 articulations is not enough for today… Close,Quarter,Threeq,Half,Open only 5 … SD3 has 8 ¡¡¡¡¡
that’s why SD3 hats sound good… the rest sounds Muddy …BFD3 is better… has better samples… and Another thing… in SD3 you can hit the Most open Hi Hat …Hit… and then close the foot pedal and it follows the CC4 ¡ that is Amazing ¡ and viceversa … you can hit the “Tigh” articulation and the open the CC4 immediately and the samples follows the cc4 … that is a Must…
