[UNDER REVIEW] Frequent Crash Dumps

I’m getting loads of crash dumps - like every time I use the program. Any suggestions on what might be causing them and how to address?

Hi @gcdahlman,

Are the crash dumps saving in a location that you would be able to send them to us? If our devs can have a look at the logs they should be able to figure out what is happening and hopefully fix your problem. It’s quite worrying that you’re experiencing this, so please send the logs as soon as you are able. If you can’t upload them directly here, a link to WeTransfer/Dropbox would be preferable.

Also, please try to provide as much information as possible when you reply, including what build you are running, and any activities that regularly lead to a crash, so that we can narrow this down.

Kind Regards,
Logan

If you’re on windows you can find the crash logs in YourDocuments\BFD Drums\Crash Logs.

I’ve just uploaded an old one to test that they can be uploaded here.

Thanks - and let’s see if this will work. I have been having trouble getting the BFD 2 pieces to work

  • and occasionally some others. Let me know if these help or how I can send them more effectively.

Thanks @gcdahlman

We will look into this now and come back to you should we need to discuss it further.

Hi @gcdahlman

Thank you for the crash dumps.

Could you let us know what version of BFD3 you are using please? Also, are there any steps to reproduce the issue that you have identified?

E.g.

  1. Launch BFD3
  2. Load specific Preset
  3. Press Play
  4. Crash

Many thanks,
Garcia

Hi @gcdahlman

Just a friendly reminder about my previous request.

Many thanks,
Garcia

Garcia,
Sorry for the lengthy delay – I’ve been traveling and just got back to this. I’d determined, after playing around with it, that the content paths were screwing it up. So I “Removed All the Content Paths” and then rescanned. That cleaned it up quite a bit…but I still don’t have any BFD2 components. Frankly, I’m not really concerned about that, though. I’ll just patch some of the kits that are missing pieces with BFD3 components. Also, the stand-alone version has some weird doubling up when playing the grooves. (sounds like flams all over!) But again, I think that’s probably because I have some duplicate files in the content path. I’ll have to go through and root those out. It’s just a big repair job of patching and correcting the gaps and fixing quirks. Hope the switch to Windows 11 doesn’t mess with this further!?!

Hi gcdahkman,

Thank you for your reply. Are you confirming that crashes are no longer happening after you rescanned the content.

Many thanks,
Garcia

Yes - sorry if that wasn’t clear. After I disconnected - then rescanned - I no longer had the crash problem (though BFD2 is not accessible). Maybe this should be for another string…but are you looking into Windows 11 compatability??

For your BFD2 library you need to download The London Sessions.
Before installing them, contact support@bfddrums.com or @BFD_Drew or @garcia with you BFD2 serial number and your account details and they should supply you with a serial number for The London Sessions which you can then enter into the LM.

Steve

Thanks, Steve. Actually, Drew was kind enough to set me up with London Sessions. I assume, then, that I can effectively (safely?) delete any files related to BFD2 and proceed from there. I had a number of custom kits that included BFD2 components, which I’ll now have to reconstruct. No big deal. Just nice to know how to move forward. Thanks!!

I’d suggest removing all your BFD2 stuff from BFD3 contents first and just testing the London Sessions to see if there are any shenanigans.

Then delete it all once everything is working to your liking.
