I’ve noticed lately that the spammers have broken through the forums defences.
I really hope you guys are on to discord who host the forum, otherwise it’s going to go the way of the old fxpansion forum before long.

Hey @Steve63
Was just about to make a post about this on the beta section of the forum. Yes, we are aware and are working hard to get it fixed. Hopefully this will not continue much longer.
Thanks,
Joe
@Joeface53 let me know if I can help. As well as a drummer, I’m the CEO of Discourse.
Discourse. Quite the opposite of Discord.
I don’t remember what was required to sign up, but can’t you just add like 3, BFD-related questions that new accounts would have to answer to even get access?
And yes, kill all spammers. Like I don’t see the point anyways. Not even grandma is gonna see written gibberish like that and think, hell yeah, I’m contacting them. I think this was deliberate anyways.
I think it’s someone who figured out how to hack into Discourse forums in general. Saw the same spam ads in the Arturia forum a while back. Pretty much the same m.o. and ads.
Killing is too good for them. Loooooooong sloooooooow drawn out torture is more appropriate for the vermin.
Hey @HAWK
Thanks for that! We think we’ve got it under control now but we might come back to you in the future lol.
Thanks,
Joe
There are Product Forums have gone to requiring a Licensed Product to register…otherwise you can’t post…for example Toontrack…
It also prevents someone from posting in wrong section…
Maybe …eventually… Login can require an InMusic Profile etc
I called for that on the fx forum years ago.
My idea was that non registered users could post one message a day, or week, and if someone replied to that message, they could then post another.
This would filter out genuine questions for help or advice.
Steve
I think the issue with that here is, even though inMusic staff are present at times, there’s been mention before that this is not an official forum, or something like that, so I don’t know if product registration verification would be possible? Idk, it’s seems like maybe they have it under control now. This was the first time a breach like that happened since the forum came to be, so it’s not like it’s been a recurring thing. Hopefully it stays that way…
Aye, but like a flash flood, it starts with a trickle and before you know it, it’s a torrent and then your house and car are sailing down the river.
Once they get their foot in the door they seem to be hard to get shot of.
I think you’re right about them being more on top of it.
I mean, the CEO of Discourse read this so that’s a huge plus.
Steve
Discourse.
This will be a settings issue. As a general rule there should be no or very few) spammers.
Non registered users can’t post at all. Brand new users are rate limited by the Trust Level system, if it is set up correctly.
The tools definitely exist to control it, but for transparency I am only here because I’m a drummer. We don’t monitor sites that aren’t on our hosting.
Sorry, I kind of thought I might have it backwards when I typed that, but was out on the bus using my phone so…
When it happened on Arturia they got bombed for a day or so, just like here. It hasn’t reoccurred there; let’s hope for the same here. Wonder if Steinberg gets hit next or Waves. Those are the other forums I know of that use Discourse. Steinberg has had single spam posts every now and then but no blitzes like here and Arturia, but then Steinberg has a lot of employees that are on the forum constantly and they’ve also appointed a lot of seasoned users as moderators.
Thanks to ALL. We have implemented some more safeguards to prevent these spam attacks going forward! @HAWK We are hosted by Discourse as well. Please feel free to reach out to me directly, anytime. Rob G - Community Manager - inMusic Brands
You’re actually not – you’re self hosted so the site doesn’t call home. I’m still very happy to help though. My husband worked at InMusic (here in NZ) until very recently.
Steinberg is hosted by us so they have an extra level of protection.
I see. Diggin into this. I just gained access a couple of weeks ago. I’ll DM you, thanks.
