Hi, this appears to be the most obvious place to ask this, but Admins please feel free to move it if needed.
Where would I find developer documentation on the .bfd3map file format? I could probably reverse-engineer based on exporting an existing map and looking at it, but as it is not self-documenting that is going to take me a long time to figure out…
It would be super useful if there were a devdocs article on the format so that I can assemble a keymap for an EFNOTE kit.
EFNOTE 3/5 MIDI Mapping follows the GM Standard as do a number of Modules from other Brands…including Alesis,Roland.
The only difference is the EFNOTE has (2) Triple (3) Zone Crashes with additional MIDI assignment for the Bell… a large number of drum Modules do not have Triple (3) Zone Crashes…including High End Roland etc and the EFNOTE Module does not send a Note for the Splash like some modules do
You can load one of the Roland Maps from TD-17 thru TD-50X (same Map…difference is the Aux Inputs/Expansion) and use the MIDI learn or assign the Bell MIDI Note manually then save/name the map as an EFNOTE Map.
I created one with the updated Hi hat Mapping for Dark Farm and attached in this Topic
The advantage of having multiple GM Maps from different Brands is the Cymbal Sizes.
I have noticed different “Tweaks” in the map itself for different cymbal models, probably done during the creation of the map if there was a physical kit available.
You can also create a MIDI Map from scratch using MIDI Learn Feature in BFD…
EFOTE Reference Guide (MIDI Map pg 12)
Crash 1 Bell - 54
Crash 2 Bell - 56
Crash 3 - Dual Zone
Examples of Expansions/Libraries with Triple Zone (3) Zone Crashes (Bell - Articulation)
BFD3 Core Library…Oblivion…Crush…Sabian Digital Vault…Zildjian Digital Vault which was discontinued (License not renewed by Zildjian…now part of the Alchem-E E-Vault Module/Kit) and others…
Thanks @CHASER, it is a 3x. I was looking into the MIDI mappings of the EFNOTE manuals but it was not immediately apparent to me that Roland shares a similar configuration. I will try with that and see how I go.
Since I now know which model , I can create a map with image…
I created (2)…one is with the Standard Hi Hat Transitions/Zones…the other is for the Upgraded/Updated Expansions with 1/8…currently Dark Farm.
I haven’t seen or received any feedback if the Map(s) with the extra transitions/zones is any easier or worse for dialing in earlier Expansions…especially the Roland Maps as the Hi Hat transitions are set for 0-127 and a number of Roland Modules are 0-90CC
Test them and see if all the Kit pieces work properly.
Hi hat is always the one you spend more time on with adjustment for playing style etc etc.
Unzip…copy/Paste the Folder to:
Windows C:\ProgramData>BFD Drums>BFD3>System>Maps.
