Bought the Jazz & Funk Expansion pack and can’t find the kits that go with it, only presets!
When I choose a Preset and switch over to Kits and click filter, there is no filter group for Jazz & Funk!?!
Am I missing something or do I have to create my own kits if I want to use them in other Presets?
Thanks to anyone who chimes in with some insights.
There should be kits but the installer is in need of updating.
If you go to the contents location page and hit the Add BFD2 Paths and rescan, you may find they’ll miraculously appear.
If that doesn’t work, try extracting the install file and opening the payload file, inside there you should find the kits and presets folders. From there you can move them to where ever you like and point BFD3 to their location.
If the 2 methods above don’t work, PM me and I’ll send you them.
Steve
Thank you Steve63,
So there should be non-preset kits in my Kits tab and Jazz & Funk folder?
Unfortunately, the “Add BFD2 Paths” button is missing from 3.5.
No idea what “extracting the install file” means (I’m on a Mac btw). inMusic Software Center deletes those files once installed (didn’t have the room to hold onto them).
Adding a screenshot of my J&F folder… I’m a little surprised there’s no “Grooves” either? Seems like “Jazz & Funk” would have a collection of Grooves too?
Thank you again for the help!!
Not all packs have kits. JNF only has presets.
Thanks for the clarification!
Thank you Steve, I really appreciate it!!
I also show those Kits…
The JNF Kits are from BFD1…imported in BFD3
I still have the Boxed Version…the Kits originally had a bfk extension .
I attached the Original Kits/bfk…which can only be used in BFD1 or Imported into BFD.
Perhaps Drew will consider having them imported into v3.5 and added to the Installer.
I noticed the info for the v3.5 Core Kit pieces…Kits…Presets… have minimum requirements in them now…" MinimumRequiredEngineVersion=“3.5”.
I presume that’s how all the Expansions will be and need to be Re-Installed
JNF Kits BFD1.zip (327.7 KB)
I’m guessing mine were on the Jazz & Funk disc that I got.
It was a while back though and couldn’t be arsed to look under my bed for it.
Steve
Thank you Chaser!!
I’ve imported the kits. They all have extra kit pieces (with no associated drums/cymbals) but I’m in the process of deleting the those and resaving.
Thanks again!!
All of them had Extra Kit Pieces ? (Greyed out in the Layout)…or missing Kit pieces? (Yellow Triangles)
Some of the earlier Expansions had missing Kit Piece issues. These may have been resolved in an earlier Version…probably imported into BFD2.
I checked my Notes and the Fusion Stick Kit had a couple missing…Slingerland Mid Tom…and Sabian 12 Splash , that I think the names were changed sometime long ago…
I checked on another machine…
If you are re-saving Kits…they become User Kits…
Here are all JNF imported in BFD3 (Not v3.5…different procedure) and edited to appear under the menu properly…
You can test these…
Remove your current JNF folder in the Kits and replace with this one re-scan system Content (if on BFD3)…v3.5 has a Minimum requirement 3.5 added
BFD Jazz n Funk.zip (339.0 KB)
Thanks again Chaser, for taking the time.
I’m on 3.5 so I did all of the above and rescanned all. Ended up with 16 kits?!?
Hid every other kit to get back to the JNF 8.
Reset all BFD prefs and still got the extra kit pieces (see attached).
I don’t mind going through and deleting all the extra drums and cymbals and am fine with setting up a JNF user folder… still easy to get to.
Doing multi-channel mixes in Logic so that’s why I need the kits, not the processed presets.
Thank you again!!
The doubling of Kits happens if you have multiple copies in the scans.l
The extra Kit pieces you show is because you have the JNF Big Room 18 (18 Kit Pieces) Preset loaded.
If you load that Preset and then change to Kits…and go through those the layout will show empty slots as there aren’t enough Kit pieces…
10 or 18…or Solo are larger Kits…Load any of the smaller Presets and then go to Kits and change them and the layouts will be appropriate to the Kit pieces count.
What a mess! Wish I’d bought a different EXP at this point.
Went back and loaded the 10 piece BigRoom preset, went back to Kits and loaded the Big Stick Gretsch Set… 9 extra slots… all the kits, regardless of Preset have 9 extra slots?!?
Used to play a Slingerland kit back in the day so was looking forward to that JNF kit… there isn’t one! Guess I’ll have to build that kit from the included drums.
The hierarchy escapes me. My brain says Drums (and cymbals) > Kits > Presets but BFD has Presets with no associated Kits?
Glad I have ED3 and SD3, everything just works, from hi hat articulations to chokes to even velocities from preset to preset - good to go right out of the box.
OK, enough ranting… back to rebuilding the kits I thought I had paid for (and am now paying for again).
Thank you again for all the help!!!
I’ve only scanned this thread but in case it helps the Slingerland kit is called ‘JNF Fusion set’ and comes in stick and brush flavours.
If you want to build the Slingerland from individual kit pieces the original kit (I’m assuming as it was recorded) seems to be as follows.
The slingerland kick and toms obviously.
The remo snare.
Sabian fusion hihats
Sabian crash 17" (cym1)
Wuhan splash 10" (cym2)
Sabian ride 20"
The brushes version has the manhatten hihats and I think the 12" splash … but that’s close enough for jazz (and funk).
Mine also loads with a saw blade from the percussion pack. Not sure who put that there…
Thank you MidiSauce!
I’m in the process of saving the unprocessed kits.
Appreciate the specifics!!
What a timely thread --I was just looking for my JnF kits yesterday and not finding any, just reckoned oh I guess it never had kits and you just build your own.
Will add water and reconstitute – JnF has a boatload of desirable sounds.
et voila! JnF kits back in the house.
thank you, jshixon1, steve63, midisauce, Lord Drew et crew!
