I see the last comment about updates was made in May of this year so i wonder is BFD3 doomed?
I think they’re focused on BFD4.
Is that actually still happening?
Good question. I’ll say I assume so because I haven’t heard anything to the contrary, but I don’t know if that’s a valid assumption or not.
That sucks, i love so much this drum sampler, but i somehow feel that even BFD 4 would not see the light of the day.
Especially as they already know there are issues with the product authenitcations that they were warned off in the Beta testing.
Looks like they’ve abandoned it except for still trying to sell expansions.
Hoping for a surprise announcement someday with regards to BFD4, a big hopeing…..
BFD is still not officially supported on Sequoia so is now two OS updates behind on the Mac!
I think that, combined with the current dumpster sale of expansion packs, points to the end of the line for BFD3, and no realistic prospect of a BFD4
If this is true, tbh (without sounding selfish) I’m not that bothered. I love BFD3, even with all the BS it’s been through, all the beta testing etc, has been an interesting experience. Unfortunately for some it still isn’t quite what it should be, I really feel for those people and I hope BFD can sort it out for them. I am quite happy to keep using it as it is, it works as it should (mostly) for me.
They do need to sort out customers having issues, this is not negotiable, either that or refund them. There’s so many issues with regards to all of this, people losing their shit on this forum, threatening all sorts of whatever. I was sad to see that happen, and sad to see people leave. If I was having the same issues they had I probably would have done the same. While I really would love a working hassle free BFD4, I’m good with what it is right now.
EDIT:
Additional responses were made while post was waiting for approval…so I had a post waiting for approval… about waiting for approval..
I should know by now…never post on Fri/Sat/Sun..it doesn’t get approved until the following week..or longer.
BFD as a whole has seemed to taken a wrong turn overall..
ZERO Communication.ZERO Participation with anyone from the BETA Team etc etc.
It’s hard to say what exactly is going on..including with this Forum.
I have “Waiting for Approval” posts still pending after 9 days..usually on the 10th day I just delete them…and I have deleted many..
I even have posts that get stuck if I respond more than once or twice in a topic in the same day..the 3rd one gets the notice…and don’t bother posting on a Fri…it won’t get approved until Monday..if at all..
Products tend to get a bad reputation when New users or first time purchasers feel ignored when asking for basic help in Forums.
EXAMPLE:
New user trying to get help with a Alesis Drum Kit just purchased..I responded right after the 1st post..still not approved after 9 days and there have now been other responses
I’m using BFD3 on Sequoia (M4 laptop) and have been since March 2025. No issues to speak of, beyond having to wait through the “searching for licenses” routine at startup. Other than that, it seems to work fine.
That’s correct rolandk, however if you try contacting InMusic to ask for support they will tell you BFD3 is no longer supported on Sequoia, and presumably not Tahoe either? Two OSs behind means end of the line in my experience.
It’s so sad. Of all the drum/percussion tools I use, BFD3 is still the best in so many respects. It’s so wonderfully designed and focused on all the things that actually make it easier to build drum tracks, and its sounds and flexibility are just about unbeatable. But I’m rapidly reaching the end of my rope dealing with the stupid authentication wait (minutes every time I launch the plugin), the crashing, and the other bugs I’ve reported that seem to be ignored in favor of…? Who knows. I’m about ready to ditch it altogether and switch to something else.
I see they pushing the sales again today, i’d rather see new packs coming out instead of lowered prices on all the stuff I already own.
Hard truth that all other options sucks, and even BFD can sound wacky at the time, but its the only drum sampler that at least preserve some natural sound of recorded drums, when i hear plastic sounds of other drum samplers i always get nerve breakdown how over processed and plastic they sound.
But it is true that without providing us updated easier workflow (i mean we cant even adjust levels of potentiomers with writting exact value but only via mouse holdin left key and moving it up\down and you can never be precise how you want to, i mean come on) , and imho samples are not the problem at all, they sounds great, but for some reason you have to work your ass off to get rid of shotgun effect.
Samples from *Black album kit for example has on snare 150 dynamic value recorded, so its obviously not their problem but rather how sampler uses them.
The biggest sadness is that it has such a huge professionaly recorded libraries with guys who were one of the best producers out there and we cant use them its just such a shame.
For me evil drums still sounds so natural for metal music like no drums out there after all these years.
I’m not sure what you’re talking about here. I haven’t run into any issues with not being able to adjust precisely what I’m after. Are you talking about the mixer? The model customizations? Something else?
You cant like in any modern piece of software just dial value numerically by double clicking and entering the value, for example 100 on volume of snare, each time you do re adjusting its always not too precise and sometimes i need it to be dead precise and i cant do it, so i`m stuck with value that shows by holding left click and rising mouse up (its never the same no matter how much you try).
While you’re moving a slider/dial with your mouse, hold down the shift key and the adjustments become much more fine and precise.
I see your point. I do sometimes prefer being able to type in a number or do a calculation to arrive at a specific value. It’s one of the reasons I so cherish the plugins from Melda Production: they let you do that virtually everywhere. But with BFD at least, I’ve always done as @paul_h suggested and used the shift key for fine adjustments. I guess I’ve grown so accustomed to it I don’t even look for a way to type an exact value.
I`ll try to , thanks. It was such a torture for all these years, especially when i doing mixing and exporting tracks in middle of the process.
I still kept it cause i dig the natural sound of samples.
