How to authorise BFD3 from off grid location

I need to authorise my packs from an off grid location. This involves having to physically move my studio computer to a different location to get internet.

I’ve forgotten - do I need to have the HD connected (where all the samples are stored). Or can I just run the library manager on its own and leave the HD behind?

Needless to say this is a major PITA. I only recently upgraded to BFD3 due to low upgrade price and the fact that I already own a ton of libraries (I’ve been a user since BFD1 came out).

I would never buy NEW software that required online authorisation. I am off grid for health reasons and so technically this is a form of discrimination. I only mention because I believe we will see a trend in this direction - on top of the general migration away from this business model because users are sick of not ever OWNING the products they pay for.

I urge BFD (inmusic) to drop this model ASAP … or at the very least allow for a one time challenge / response that can be done offline and only requires a USB drive to transfer the auth files (less hassle than transporting a whole computer).

Anyway, please can somebody let me know if I can leave the sample drive in the studio and just move the computer or if I need the samples to be connected during the auth process.

Thanks.

Users have urged inMusic to drop the online authorization since 2021. Not gonna happen. A lot of users jumped ship long ago because of that.

I don’t think the audio content needs to be mounted when authorizing. It’s just verifying which products you have to use with that particular machine ID.

If you don’t want the constant software center authorizing every time you want to use BFD3, then I suggest rolling back to v3.4.5.28 and the older license manager. You just can’t download any content, but it authorizes and is fully functional otherwise. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to use it offline for up to 90 days (once authorized), but usually that number is lower, but it certainly won’t ask to authorize every time you use it. I generally can go at least 30 days without being inconvenienced.

I’m sorry to say I think you’re screwed with 3.5 and above. That release includes the beyond-idiotic choice to authorize everything literally every single time the software is launched. Which is killing me. And is why I’m going to drop BFD3 after years. I just can’t take the five-minute penalty every time I want to add the plugin to a track.
