Hi all I use BFD with Cubase every day on my projects.
Two things bug me most so far :
1- hihat articulations : I find the closed hihat comparatively too quiet compared to semi open or open. Even with closed hh at high velocity and semi or open at low velocity I find it hard to balance. And there is no separate mixer channel as with the snare. How do you guys deal with that?
2- Is there an alternate round robin on crash 2 ? Every time I select a MIDI note playing it, it alternates between one lower hit and a harder hit ! That makes programming drums difficult !
I have started writing more feedback on the BFD UI and UX but I’d like to start with these as I’m working to finish a really good track and would like to iron those details.
Thanks !
I can answer question 1! - You can adjust hihat articulation levels by selecting the hi hat, then in Kit view, in the Model panel >Articulations>Chose the articulation then adjust Artic Trim value

The Model panel is super useful and important. The available controls depend on the drum selected. I use at least some sections of it on every kit piece channel. The dampening can dial in the tightness of the kick, toms, as well as hihats. I use differing amounts of the cymbal swells on all my cymbals. I add just a dB or so of the tom resonance. It kinda acts a a little glue. I’ve come across a few expansions that need a little tweaking with the articulation levels.
Got it, indeed lots of useful controls there to explore. Probably too many controls all over the place and I am a bit upset I did not see this panel for so long. The UI is so bloated and disorganised, it needs tidying up !
It does feel overwhelming at first. There are lots of sections and controls, but after some time it won’t feel so confusing. I have the BFD3 Explained tutorials saved and it covers pretty much everything. I can DM you a link if you’re interested.
Yes please I’ll be happy to get it, I am trying hard to get a song finished as I have a great opportunity to showcase it on TV
It’s so much work but I love doing this !
DM sent. Good luck with your project.
Fender Bender, would you send me the link as well. Thank you
