I have the kit set up with BFD3.5, but cannot get the hihat mapped correctly. When I set up tip and shank closed…it plays correctly, but will also play the same if the hihat is opened. The same thing happens when I map for open…even closed, it plays opened.
Can someone help me in the simplest way possible how to fix this?
You should be using variable HH’s, not any one particular HH articulation. Open BFD and load a kit. Go to the Key Map tab and load your key map if you’re not using the default. Hit your hats. At the bottom right you should see a box with “Response” on one side and “Hihat” on the other. Click on HiHat. You should see the variable zone sliders and then some boxes. Lock Tip and Shank, Auto pedal event, Auto Splash event, All Hihats variable, HH transition model.
I have Lock tip and shank, and All Hihats variable turned on. Turn on your variable hihat button and see if that fixes the problem.
So I don’t use BFD anymore, but I did finally get the hihats working correctly. I ‘think’ that I had a Roland TD20, 25, or 30 for the kit mapping…then it was basically guess work in the lower right location where you can select different categories for your hihat…Lock Tip and Shank, Auto Pedal, etc…I ended up just trying out different combos until one worked. I wish that I could remember what it was, but it did end up being simple. Good luck with it!
