I still have my original BFD2 discs. After I have finished my current unfinished projects, I want to uninstall BFD3 and go back to BFD2, but will it work?
It will not be the last BFD2 version, so it should just install from the discs and work as long as I don’t try to update it right?
I have some platinum samples expansions and also Oblivion, so if I just leave those in their current locations, I shouldn’t need to reinstall those should I? I guess I’ll need to remove the London Sessions because those are all on the BFD2 discs.
I’m surprised that Fxpansion users still have access to all the BFD products via their website. I have no idea if that License Manager can still download and authorize products though. I’m kinda tempted to install an older version of Pro Tools and the BFD stuff on another Mac, just for nostalgia.
The only issue in the future would be if your authorized machine dies, rendering the authorization file useless and you can’t authorize again because they killed BFD on their servers. I wonder though if you can edit the auth file with an editor and change the machine ID, negating the need to authorize via their servers?
I would run this by tech support first. As I recall, all the expansions had to be updated in order to work with BFD3. Same for the core library. So trying to get them to work with BFD2 would be a no go.
I don’t think either of those would be an issue as long as it will install the old fashioned way, using the serial on the disc an not needing to phone home to authorise.
If the machine dies, I could just reinstall and as far as the library is concerned, the only one I’d lose is oblivion. The others, I also have on discs.
I’d be cool with sacrificing Oblivion and the BFD3 core library to have a good stable BFD2. I’m gonna get SD or Slate aswell, so it would just be good to have the best of both available.
I’m still on 3.4, which is working pretty well, except for the spiking meters crash every now and then, for which I seemed to have stumbled on a solution, so im not in any hurry. Maybe I’ll try it on my laptop first & see how I get on.
I kept my old BFD2 library and BFD2 runs okay on my fully up to date windows 11.
However, I would be surprised if you’d be able to download the library using the tickets with the old licence manager.
I woud definitely check thst that all works before gong ahead.
Just to add, I run BFD2 alongside BFD3, I just have the original BFD2 library and they’re both happy.
Hmm, so I might just try installing BFD2 without uninstalling BFD3 then! I seem to remember that BFD2 had to be uninstalled in order for BFD3 to work, altho I can’t remember why.
The BFD2 library is on my discs, so I won’t need to download anything. Even my platinum samples packs are all on discs, altho for those, I’m guessing I can just point BFD2 to their existing locations. If not, then I’ll just install them from the discs.
