BFD 3 and M4 MacOS Sequoia

I purchased the software (on sale) thinking that “oh, the free BFD works great on my rig…what could go wrong?”
Pretty much everything!
I’ve installed, deleted, reinstalled, read the manual…
I feel that I just pissed away good money.
Evidently nothing that loaded, actually loaded.
BFD3 does not run in stand alone mode or in Rosetta.
Tremendously disappointed!

BFD3 as many others are not supported on macOS Sequoia, which was released less than 3 months ago.BFD v3.5 is currently under BETA Testing

BFD | macOS 15 Sequoia Compatibility

Currently, BFD software is not supported on macOS 15 Sequoia - We encourage all our dedicated AIR Music Tech software owners to refrain from updating to macOS 15 until compatibility with the new operating system can be confirmed.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to ensure full compatibility with macOS 15 Sequoia.

There is a very long list of Developers who either don’t support or have not supplied any information for compatibility with Sequoia

I mean when you buy any software, it’s up to the buyer to read the system requirements. On the BFD3 product page it says Monterey is the last macOS version officially supported. You can’t assume anything in the audio world these days, especially with Apple’s, introducing a brand new macOS annually, which tends to break compatibility and drives Devs nuts.

I cannot agree with your statement. Apple introduced Sequoia to developers in June. And yes, some developers have yet to update, but look at the ones that have.
I will agree that it’s my bad for assuming that a company with a solid reputation like BFD would have had their act together.
And as an aside, if the free version can work with Sequoia…?

You need to understand a couple things. First off, the BFD team isn’t like Avid, Waves or Steinberg, etc. It’s just a tiny company with not a lot of people behind the scenes. Just the reality. So this small team has to juggle working on Player, BFD3, expansions for both and BFD4.

BFD Player was created in the past few years, so it was built up with more modern day coding and with today’s hardware, DAW and OS software in mind. BFD3 on the other hand, is well over a decade old and was built on coding for hardware and operating systems that are archaic now and therefor it has limitations and challenges to make it functional with modern day hardware and OS.

When you buy a new M4 MacMini, it comes with Sequoia preinstalled and you cannot roll it back.
In addition, I’m not prepared to create an external boot drive merely to satisfy a drum plugin.

Granted, there are a number of developer that haven’t gotten their act together either, but some of them work just fine as is i.e. Soundtoys, Eventide, NI, and more.
