BFD 3.5 E-Drums

Hello guys!

I Am having a problem. When I play my edrums i get both sounds: the module’s sound and bfd3 instruments at the same time.
I have the local control off in my TD-17 module.
Can antoje help me?

thank you!!

Just turn the volume down on your TD-17 module.

I didnt need to do that before. I bought an externar hard drive and i re instaled all my bfd data again.

It used to work fine without having to change the settings in my module

Don’t take this the wrong way, but it’s a fairly simple answer, it could be one of a few reasons.
See if you can possibly figure it out, it’s possible there’s some midi being sent to your TD-17 module?
Possibly someone has changed the vol setting on your module and forgotten about it?
If you’re using it as a midi controller for BFD3, why have the audio outputs from it plugged in?

A bit more complex than an acoustic kit for sure, and unfortunately that means being able to operate it in more than a ‘set and forget’ scenario, as when things ‘go wrong’ (as they most certainly WILL and DO at times) there isn’t always someone around to fix it for you.

It’s weird.
First of all: I suck at this.

The other thing is this problem do not happen with other libraries, only with BFD.
Maybe i need to change some midi settings.

Hey @Nacho

You don’t ‘suck’ at it mate, you’re just inexperienced as WE ALL are when we’re new to these things, and BFD3 IS fairly complex even before we get to the midi side of things.

Unfortunately, though, these things go hand in hand if we’re wanting to use these tools, so we have the choice of either learning them well enough or just giving up.

Have a look at the midi spec in the manuals for both your module and BFD3, you NEED to be familiar with them, it’s not really ‘desirable or optional’ if you’re wanting to use them together.

In this case, look for something called ‘Midi CC’ or ‘Continuous Controllers’, they’re the little signals within the midi stream that will control certain aspects of your module and BFD3 such as high hat/foot position etc, and see which ones might control volume levels.

It MIGHT seem complicated at first, but take it a little bit at a time. It might be frustrating at times too, but that’s all part of being a musician and learning to BE a musician, i’m afraid. You ar going to have to be PATIENT!

Meanwhile, while you’re figuring this all out, just turn the volume down on your module or unplug the audio leads coming from it, sometimes there’s a very simple answer staring us in the face.

Go to the Audio/MIDI Settings and make sure the TD-17 is Unchecked for MIDI Out Device..

There is also a MIDI OUT setting under BFD preferences..however it is per Session..

You may also be able to turn off Sending Audio or MIDI to the Module..in the Module itself.
There are a number of Roland Modules that have USB Bi-Directional Audio and MIDI.
The Majority of Drum Modules don’t have the USB Audio feature.

The TD-17 has different MODES…for sending/receiving Audio/MIDI..GENERIC and VENDOR.

I don’t recall which does which as I don’t use Roland Modules…I believe you could send Bluetooth Audio to the Module in GENERIC and it would pass through the USB Audio , while in VENDOR the Module sends Out USB Audio..

Hey Chaser! How are you?

I did what you said but it doesnt work.

In the output device it shows two options: TD-17 (it triggers my module sounds) and microsoft gs wavetable synth (it triggers a piano).

GS Wavetable Synth is the onboard MIDI Instrument for Windows.

Try restarting BFD…see if both the MIDI Input and Output don’t have a Device Selected..

Select Only the TD-17 as the Input Device..and leave the MIDI Output Device unchecked.
No Devices should be selected.

I haven’t been using 3.5 with an E-Kit very much..

It seems to have other issues with the MIDI..

For example..
I tried to replicate your issue

I used the Alesis STRIKE Module (Don’t own any Roland)..which is Class Compliant.
On BFD Startup..No Devices are checked for either MIDI Input Device or MIDI Output device.
If I select the STRIKE Module ONLY as MIDI Input Device..everything works fine.
If I also select as MIDI Output Device..BFD Crashes and will not close entirely..it freezes (“Not Responding”) .even if I use “End Task” in the Windows Task manager.
BFD will not completely close/shutdown unless I power off the STRIKE Module.

The TD-17 uses a USB Driver..for Both Audio and MIDI through USB the Module must be in Vendor Mode..for MIDI Only the Module must be in GENERIC Mode.

The more I use BFD3.5..the more problems I run across… more time spent troubleshooting…the less I recommend updating.

Also as a reminder you can try unchecking the send MIDI Output in BFD preferences as mentioned in the post above

Yes I tried everything you said and it still not working. I reset, unchecked the midi output in the settings.

I switched from asio to realtek audio exclusive mode and is not triggring my module.

I dont know if that right or not. At least i can only listen to bfd instruments by their own.

“Exclusive” only allows 1 app access…
Using the Realtek you are now using your computers resources for Audio instead of the TD-17 as an Audio device..so performance will depends on your machines (CPU RAM etc) so your buffer rate may be higher to avoid clicks pops etc etc and increased latency.

If I remember correctly GS Wavetable synth and ASIO driver share the same port..there have been issues over the years with a number of DAW and the GS Wavetable Synth..

Win 10 or Win 11 ?
In Win 10 uninstalling/disabling GS Wavetable Synth is Hit n Miss and usually is reinstalled again on startup..
In Win 11 you should be able to uninstall it..then you could go back to using the TD-17 as the Audio device..

  1. Open the Control Panel: Click on the Start menu and search for “Control Panel.” Open the Control Panel from the search results.

  2. Access the Programs and Features: Once in the Control Panel, navigate to the “Programs” or “Programs and Features” section. This section contains a list of all the installed programs on your computer.

  3. Locate the Wavetable Synthesizer: In the Programs and Features list, find the entry for “Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth” or “Microsoft Software Wavetable Synthesizer.”

  4. Click on Uninstall: Select the Wavetable Synthesizer entry and click on the “Uninstall” button located at the top of the Programs and Features window. Alternatively, you can right-click on the entry and choose “Uninstall” from the context menu.

  5. Confirm the Uninstallation: A confirmation prompt will appear asking if you want to proceed with the uninstallation. Click “Yes” to confirm and initiate the removal process.

  6. Follow the Uninstallation Wizard: The uninstallation process will be guided by an uninstallation wizard. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process. It may ask you to confirm the removal, ask for administrative privileges, or provide options to retain or remove any associated files or settings.

  7. Wait for the Uninstallation: The uninstallation process may take a few moments to complete. Allow the wizard to remove the Wavetable Synthesizer from your computer. Do not interrupt the process or shut down your computer during this time.

  8. Restart your Computer: Once the uninstallation process is complete, restart your computer to finalize the changes and ensure that any leftover files or processes are completely removed.

I don’t know why the issue started after updating to BFDv3.5…
I also don’t know why the change to limit to one MIDI Device and why if unchecking “Send MIDI Out” in the Preferences still sends MIDI.

It’s really weird. I dont know the wavetable is coming from. Cannot find it in the control panel.
I tried again today and every option is triggering my internal module sounds.

I was just about to buy a lot of expansions, the discount on them is really nice and i’ve been waiting a price down to get some of them.

I guess i will have to turn the module’s volume down. I will try to learn how. I tried yesterday and i couldnt.

It is under Device Manager > Software Devices.
You can right click on it and see Disable and Uninstall Options..however since it is part of the Windows System it will re-install on re-boot.
There are some other options..it will probably depend on the OS version.
You can also delete it from the Registry…which is most advanced way of doing it..

Completely Disabling Ms Gs Wavetable Synth

I wonder if someone else is having the same issue.
When i use ML Drums, EZ Drummer and other libraries i dont get the same problem.

More than likely …You can’t post in the Bug report so the Beta Team NDA must still be in effect..

The "Send MIDI Out "..under Preferences is for only when Playing Grooves..

I did notice that under the MIDI Output Device select..
If you select GS Wavetable… a checkmark appears in front of it.
Select a different device a checkmark appears in front of that device..
click (once) on GS Wavetable again and No devices will be checked…
I don’t have any devices checked under Output..even after Restarting BFD3.5 Numerous Times…and I am leaving it that way.

I tried what you said and its always checked. No matter how many times i click on it.

If i select Windows audio exclusive mode and then i change it to ASIO, even in Synth is selected i just get only BFD sounds. But i always have to do that trick. If it works, i dont care. It shouldnt be that way anyways..

I dont know if there’s a explanation to that but, sometimes, it works.
