Longtime studio guy but new user of BFD (3.5), working in Cubase 14 Pro. First project, building a drum track for a work in progress. Groove Browser open on the left showing every Pallet I own. Groove Editor open. Pallet slots on the right loaded with a selection of grooves the drum track is being built from. At the end of the session I use the file menu to Save Groove Pallet.
The next time I open the project I can retrieve the saved Pallet (rightside) with the grooves for the track, but the Groove Browser (left) only shows the single Pallet those grooves are drawn from. I cannot find any way to access my inventory of groove pallets from the Groove Browser now.
If I open a different Cubase project, and add BFD as a VSTi, it opens up exactly the same in the Groove Browser (that single selection only, and with all empty slots in the right Pallet–still no apparent way to access the full inventory of groove files.
Is this a glitch or am I missing something obvious. I’ve read the manual but have not committed it to memory, certainly.
First some basic info: what OS and version of BFD3 and Cubase are you using. I’ll put my info below so we can see if we are on the same page.
I wasn’t able to reproduce the behavior you described, thus it will be helpful to know if our systems are the same or is there a difference that might explain why you’re seeing behavior I’m not.
For now, maybe the best I can do to help you is get your full list of Palettes and Groves back in the browser. First, is there a search term that’s being saved with your palette or session? Shouldn’t be, but check and clear it if so.
Second, if you use the ellipsis menu to the right and above the search box and select ‘All’ does that restore all your palettes and grooves?
This didn’t allow me to reproduce your behavior, but it wouldn’t hurt for you to check these options anyway: go to Preferences > GUI and under Control Behavior, set Startup Screen and Startup Browser to something other than (last used)
Lastly, this won’t have any bearing on your issue, but since you’re using Cubase, check in the preferences under the Grooves tab then Editor + Misc subsection and see if you have the ‘Cubase Loop Correction’ box checked. Grooves exported or looped within Cubase from BFD need this checked to trigger without glitching.
Let me know if any of the above helps out.
EDIT:
I just noticed that in your title you have this tagged as BFD Player, but in your text you said BFD3. I obviously gave advice on BFD3. Which are you actually using? You should update either the tag or your text so they both match to avoid further confusion, and you can get appropriate help.
Fender, are you still using 3.4? Your screen shot looks it. The two buttons you show beneath the search box, Library and Fav, aren’t there in 3.5.
They got replaced, strangely, by the Ellipsis menu and the Filter (funnel in search box), where you can set the library to User like you said. Not sure how you do favorites now, unless you had a preexisting folder or created one manually. Do you know?
My posts were put in an approval queue and just got posted today. Useless system. I had DM’d the OP, but never heard from them anyways.
Yeah, still on 3.4 because I can’t run 3.5 on my main rig.
I have never used 3.5, so I wouldn’t know about the favorites tab being gone. I created mine in 3.4. I have one for presets as well. Makes it quick to get to your go-to stuff. Aside from looking prettier, I don’t think I’m really missing not using 3.5 tbh.
Thanks for the replies! Clicking on the ellipses was giving me this only: all (1). Opening the filter, everything was blank except one slot under favorites with the same thing: all(1). Eventually I kept opening every menu I could find repeatedly and finally I followed the Main Menu like so: Tools > Set up content locations…, which took me here:
I clicked RESCAN ALL, and that succeeded in putting all the grooves back in the Groove Browser. The ellipses now display a full list of sources, and clicking the filter does too. So that’s all good.
The BFD Player tag was an error I didn’t notice. BTW my full specs are
Windows 11 Version 24H2
BFD 3.5 Build 49
Cubase 14 Pro v14.0.30
I’m confused - you seem to be going back and forth between BFD and BFD Player. All your descriptions fit BFD, but your screen cap above is definitely BFD Player. My and CHASER’s screen caps are from BFD, so if you’re using only Player you can ignore. Are you using both and have a similar problem in each?
I’m using BFD 3.5 only. I’m new to BFD and this thread was my first post. I didn’t notice the tag thing when I started the topic, and the topic got erroneously tagged Player unbeknownst to me. As I mentioned in my previous post (which took a while to get approved), by repeatedly poking around at everything I could find, I came upon a button to rescan content, and that solved the problem.
No that was my bad. Your screen cap of the content manager shows the style that first appeared in BFD Player and I guess I still associate it with Player. Forgot the incorporated that into 3.5 as well. Sorry about that.
Glad you got things sorted in any event.
Cheers!
