3rd party & discontinued expansions

Hi everyone, I’m new here but not to BFD - still have by boxed copy of 1.5

I had trouble getting BFD Eco to run smoothly back in the day and this put me off upgrading to BFD2 which I was considering at the time, as a result I ended up moving on to other products and only recently found my way back to it with the 3.5 update. I’ve used pretty much all the drum VSTi’s available at this point and even done work for some of the developers, but I always thought BFD products had some level of realism I couldn’t quite achieve with the competition. I’m impressed with 3.5 so far.

A couple of questions for the knowledgable folks here if you don’t mind:

It looks like it’s still possible to buy some 3rd party expansions such as Joe Barresi Evil Drums etc, but can they still be authorised now BFD uses the inMusic software center? Platinum Samples website doesn’t look like it’s been updated for a couple of decades, it would be nice to know if anyone bought from them recently and were able to get it working ok with 3.5.

My second question is regarding the BFD Deluxe expansion, which it seems has been discontinued. Has there been any official explanation for why this is? I’ve seen it on ebay a few times, assuming the licence was correctly transferred is it still possible to authorise this expansion and use it with 3.5?

All the best

The Platinum Samples will work, but I think you would have to request a replacement serial#.

I thought Drew had explained why Deluxe was dropped, but after a search here, I couldn’t find anything. Same deal, you would need a replacement serial#.

Thank you, I suspected it would likely be fine but it’s good to get some confirmation. Cheers!

The Deluxe kit along with some others..XFL,the BFD1 Core Library (later became the Eldorado Expansion)..were recorded at Eldorado Studios , which InMusic was Not granted Licensing by Eldorado Studios after acquiring FXpansion BFD..

The Studio still refers to it in their History/Timeline etc

I believe current existing licenses and those still available out there for sale are still Honored…you have to contact support for the New SN etc..

Same with Zildjian Vault and a few others..Zildjian released their own E-Drum Module

I can confirm that my kits work, so yes, existing licenses are honored.
